Kevin ‘Rocket’ Blanch is retiring as the technical director of IndyCar Officiating.
A longtime and respected veteran of the IndyCar Series paddock, Blanch joined IndyCar in 2003 after serving more than six seasons with Panther Racing, earning two championships in addition to 11 victories and five pole positions. During his tenure, he oversaw technical inspections and provided critical oversight on aerodynamics, chassis design, and safety regulations.
“I had been considering retirement from IndyCar’s technical side for some time,” Blanch shared. “When IndyCar Officiating was reestablished last winter, I was requested to continue supporting the role during the intense Month of May and Indianapolis 500 period—a responsibility I embraced gladly.”
“Upon reflection, I’ve dedicated 36 years to IndyCar and participated in 555 consecutive races. I’ve poured my heart into a sport I adore and am deeply proud of the team I’ve collaborated with for over two decades. This marks a challenging but necessary step forward.”
Nick Allen, previously appointed technical inspection manager for the IndyCar Series in January, will assume the technical director role for IndyCar Officiating. Allen brings 20 years of experience as a race team mechanic and chief mechanic, most recently with Andretti Global.

IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles, who first collaborated with Blanch at Panther Racing, expressed his perspective on his longtime colleague’s decision.
“I’ve known Kevin for nearly 30 years, starting at Panther Racing in 1997,” Boles remarked. “His enthusiasm for IndyCar and his relentless work ethic are exceptional traits. He thoroughly understands our cars and has been pivotal in implementing numerous safety and performance enhancements over the past two decades.”
“His commitment to supporting IndyCar Officiating’s transition through the first half of the 2026 season exemplifies his dedication to excellence. We deeply appreciate his leadership and amuse to call him a friend.”
Raj Nair, IndyCar Officiating’s Independent Officiating Board Chairman, stated, “On behalf of the IndyCar Officiating Board, we extend heartfelt thanks to Kevin ‘Rocket’ Blanch for his extensive service to IndyCar and the competitors, teams, and fans who make this sport thrive.”
“Kevin’s professionalism, technical acumen, and steadfast commitment to fair and consistent competition have earned him widespread respect across the paddock. His contributions have significantly upheld the integrity of our sport and supported numerous events over the years.”
“We are particularly grateful that Kevin remained with IndyCar Officiating from the season’s start through the critical Month of May—a period of immense challenge. His efforts to facilitate a smooth transition with Nick Allen underscore his professionalism and team-oriented approach, qualities that have defined his career.”
“As Kevin embraces this new phase, we sincerely thank him for his service, commitment, and the enduring impact he has made on IndyCar Officiating. We wish him and his family the utmost happiness in retirement.”
