PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has instructed the education department to expedite the development of a legal framework for the establishment of 72 Chief Minister Model Schools throughout the province.
Presiding over a meeting regarding the initiative on Wednesday, the Chief Minister highlighted that this project is a cornerstone of the government’s broader education reform agenda.
Mr. Afridi emphasized that these institutions will integrate modern teaching methodologies, highly skilled faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality education to students across the region.
Asserting that access to quality education is a fundamental right for every child, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to elevating academic standards and improving overall learning outcomes.
He noted that systemic reforms in the education sector remain a top priority, with the government introducing comprehensive and sustainable measures to tackle long-standing institutional challenges.
The Chief Minister expressed his ambition for these model schools to serve as a benchmark for quality and modernization within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, noting that investing in education is essentially an investment in human capital, sustainable development, and future prosperity.
During the meeting, officials provided a detailed briefing on the proposed framework, revealing that 72 model schools for both boys and girls will be established across all districts during the next fiscal year.
The projected cost for the initiative is estimated at Rs9.5 billion.
The briefing further detailed that a dedicated regulatory and legal framework will be created, and a centralized board of governors will be appointed to oversee governance and management.
Additionally, it was disclosed that the curriculum and assessment systems for these model schools will differ from those of conventional public schools, redesigned to align with contemporary global standards and future workforce demands.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Education Minister Arshad Ayub Khan and senior officials from the Elementary and Secondary Education Department.
