Britain’s King Charles arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday as part of a nine-day Caribbean tour, where he faces renewed calls for an apology and slavery reparations.

It is his first official visit to the Bahamas as king, and the national government has closed all public schools on the island of New Providence to welcome him.

Members of the Bahamian police and armed forces assembled in formation to greet the monarch, some wearing pith helmets. Charles wore a light grey suit and sunglasses as he received Governor-General Dame Cynthia A. Pratt and Prime Minister Philip Davis.
