Norway’s King Haakon VIII formally took his oath before the parliament in Oslo on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in his ascension to the throne.

The solemn ceremony included a minute of silence to honor his father, the late King Harald V, who passed away on Friday.

The event proceeded without Queen Mette-Marit, who is continuing her recovery following a lung transplant.

After the proceedings, members of the public began paying their respects at the Royal Palace, where the late king’s coffin lies in state until September 8th.
