Kittle and Bosa Head to Australia Ahead of NFL Melbourne Debut

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle’s prospects of appearing in Week 1 are improving.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Kittle will travel to Australia alongside the team ahead of their upcoming matchup against the Rams in Melbourne. Having practiced over the past two days, Kittle is trending favorably toward making the game.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted earlier this week that he would have preferred to leave Kittle behind if it seemed the player would not be ready to play on the Achilles tendon he tore in January. While the trip does not guarantee his inclusion in the lineup, it remains a highly encouraging indicator.

Rapoport also reports that defensive end Nick Bosa will join the team’s journey to Australia on Wednesday. Although Bosa missed most of training camp while recovering from a torn ACL, General Manager John Lynch stated on Tuesday that he is ramping up his work with the goal of playing in the season opener.
