Kobe Brown Commits to Pacers on Two-Way Deal, Citing System Fit and Development Opportunities

LAS VEGAS — Despite the bustling atmosphere at Cox Pavillion, Kobe Brown’s focus remains fixed on his future with the Indiana Pacers. The 26-year-old wing player, a three-year NBA veteran, re-signed with the franchise on a two-way contract during free agency, solidifying his commitment to the team. Brown, who has experienced a career resurgence in Indiana, expressed enthusiasm about continuing his development under the Pacers’ system.

“I definitely wanted to come back from the jump,” Brown said. “It’s good to be back with the guys, with the program, the staff. I’m happy to be here.” His decision to re-up with the Pacers was driven by the opportunities he received during his brief tenure with the team. In just 27 games with Indiana, Brown averaged 24.7 minutes per contest, a stark contrast to his 8.1-minute average during his three seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers.

During the 2025-26 season, Brown’s performance with the Pacers exceeded his career averages, averaging 9.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting 43.3% from three-point range. His contributions extending beyond scoring, showcasing improved rebounding and defensive tenacity. “We were so pleasantly surprised at a lot of the things he was doing,” Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan noted. “[We] felt like this was a pretty good fit (in) our system. Our coaches trust Kobe.”

Brown’s rapid adaptation to the Pacers’ style of play helped him secure a regular rotation role, a stark difference from his limited opportunities in Los Angeles. His first double-figure scoring game with Indiana came in his fourth appearance, followed by a career-high 15-point performance in his next outing — a testament to his quick adaptation.

“Standard [contract] is always the goal,” Brown admitted. “But honestly… something in my gut just told me I needed to come back to Indy. And I really wanted to be here. I loved it the last two months I was there.” The two-way contract allows Brown to split time between the Pacers and their G League affiliate, the Noblesville Boom, providing flexibility for his continued development.

Playing significant minutes and thriving in a system that maximizes his versatility were key factors in Brown’s decision. With the Pacers, he gained more touches, freedom to move without the ball, and the confidence to make decisions on the court. “[I] like his versatility,” head coach Rick Carlisle said. “Moves his feet well. Has a rugged body. His rebounding is very good. Love the way he’s shooting the ball right now.”

The two-way arrangement ensures Brown can continue to grow while serving as a depth option behind established wing players like Aaron Nesmith, Jarace Walker, and Kelly Oubre. Despite the challenges of breaking into the rotation, Brown’s productivity as a two-way player underscores his value to the Pacers’ long-term plans. The team retains his Bird Rights, simplifying future contract negotiations if he builds on his 2025-26 success.

“Just coming from my last team to this team, a whole different world and playstyle. And just realizing how much I fit into the randomness, basically,” Brown said. “It’s fun to play, it’s fun to see, it’s fun to be a part of, and I’m just happy to still be here.” His offseason training in Los Angeles will focus on refining skills aligned with Indiana’s system, further preparing him for expanded opportunities.
