Indian bowlers dominate New Zealand with Brar’s standout performance
After a prolonged rain delay curtailed the contest to 47 overs per side, India’s captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. The decision proved effective as the Indian pacers exploited the conditions and repeatedly troubled the New Zealand batters.
Gurnoor Brar emerged as the stand‑out performer, delivering a compelling fast‑bowling display. The young pacer finished with figures of 4/30 from his ten overs, claiming crucial wickets including those of New Zealand skipper Tom Latham (7) and Glenn Phillips (0).
Axar Patel and Auqib Nabi also contributed, each taking two wickets to stifle the hosts’ partnerships.
Daryl Mitchell provided some resistance with a fighting half‑century, scoring 55 runs off 104 deliveries. The veteran batter attempted to hold the innings together as his teammates struggled against India’s disciplined bowling.
However, Mitchell received little support from the other end as New Zealand continued losing wickets. The hosts were bowled out for 133/9 after 40.4 overs, leaving India in a commanding position. Following their opening ODI victory in Auckland, the visitors were well placed to extend their lead and move closer to a 2‑0 series advantage.
