Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi presented the province’s FY 2026‑27 budget in the KP Assembly.
The budget totals Rs 2.17 trillion and projects a fiscal deficit of Rs 48 billion, according to official documents.
In his opening remarks, Afridi said that PTI legislators in the assembly had “unanimously decided” to approve the budget.
Earlier uncertainty about the budget’s timing was linked to a requested meeting with incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan.
Afridi emphasized that the Rs 48 billion shortfall would not be covered by external loans; “the KP government will fund this from our own resources,” he asserted.
The plan aligns with the Federal Board of Revenue’s target of Rs 15.2 trillion in tax collection.
He also stated that the budget contains no grants for the federal centre. KP representatives, he said, indicated at the National Economic Council that any decision on centre‑level grants would require consultation with Imran Khan.
“Imran Khan sahib is the final authority on this matter,” Afridi added, noting that his party has been denied a meeting with Khan. He reiterated PTI’s claim that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are being held in solitary confinement.
Prior to the presentation, Afridi chaired a provincial cabinet meeting that approved the budget.
