FOX Business host Larry Kudlow reflects on America’s promised freedom following Independence Day Weekend on ‘Kudlow.’
During the July 4th 250th anniversary celebrations, President Trump’s speeches at Mount Rushmore and the National Mall emphasized two key messages: the greatness of America as a land of freedom and liberty, and a steadfast rejection of socialism and communism.
The president recited the founding principles: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
At the National Mall, he declared, “This country is the home of freedom. This is the land of liberty,” adding, “we’re celebrating freedom’s triumph over tyranny, liberty’s conquest over oppression, and the enduring victory of the American spirit.”
Another central theme was the defense of free enterprise against socialist or communist influence. Trump warned, “The entire world has been on notice that Americans will never let anyone take our freedom away. Communism is a loser… It is the greatest threat to our country.”
These themes echo the nation’s founding ideals and resonate with the 250th anniversary, likely also shaping the upcoming midterm election discourse.
America’s economic performance underscores the argument for free enterprise. Over the past several centuries, U.S. GDP has grown nearly 3.5% annually after inflation, outpacing all other nations. Leading economists project that real GDP will reach a record high this year, even after pandemic-related setbacks.
Markets reflect this strength: stocks are soaring, corporate profits and productivity are breaking records, and household net worth has surged to approximately $170 trillion. In contrast, per‑capita GDP in the United States exceeds $90,000, while authoritarian regimes like China’s hover near $14,000.
Kudlow concludes that free enterprise remains the most effective engine for prosperity, generating living standards unprecedented in history and reinforcing America’s continued success.
