Kyowa Kirin Partners with U.S. Government to Cut Medication Prices Through New Pricing Framework
(RTTNews) – Kyowa Kirin Co., Ltd. (4151.T, KYKOY), a Japan-based specialty pharmaceutical company, announced a voluntary agreement with the U.S. government to improve access to and lower the cost of medicines for American patients. The deal is intended to reinforce investment in U.S. manufacturing and innovation.
As part of the agreement, the company will participate in the GENEROUS (GENErating cost Reductions for U.S. Medicaid) model, in which certain medicines would be offered to Medicaid patients at discounted prices, and will launch applicable new products in other developed countries with a more balanced pricing framework.
The company also said that it has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce to defer Section 232 tariffs.
“We appreciate our ongoing partnership with the U.S. government and believe this is a pragmatic step toward offering breakthrough medicines to patients.” said Abdul Mullick, PhD, President and CEO of Kyowa Kirin.
The company’s investment and operating footprint in the U.S. includes a new $530 million biomanufacturing facility under construction in Sanford, N.C., selected for the new FDA PreCheck Pilot Program, which will develop and produce biologic therapies and is expected to be operational in 2027.
The company’s research facility is in La Jolla, CA, which helps identify antibody and cell-therapy targets for new medicines.
