LA Knight recalls a moment early in his WWE main roster tenure when he feared his hard‑won career might vanish.

He debuted on the main roster in 2022 after a successful NXT run, initially appearing as Max Dupri, the spokesperson for Maximum Male Models.

At Fanatics Fest, Knight reflected on his Max Dupri period, describing it as one of the most challenging phases of his career. After years of establishing his brand in NXT and other venues, he unexpectedly found himself cast in a wholly different role on the main roster.

The mental strain of those months was intense; I felt as though everything I had built was being taken away. It seemed absurd to be asked to set that aside, and while I was offered compensation, I feared it would be career suicide and leave me adrift.

Fortunately, that phase was short‑lived. He departed Maximum Male Models and was later rebranded as LA Knight, quickly earning fan support, with the iconic “LA Knight, yeah!” chants becoming one of the loudest responses on WWE television.

When the opportunity presented itself, I decided to return to my authentic self and do things my way. That decision enabled everyone present to seize the chance to showcase their own style, with the crowd chanting “LA Knight, yeah!”

This momentum propelled him to become one of the company’s top stars and culminated in a United States Championship reign.
