Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald Jr., passed away due to multiple health issues, including severe sepsis, as detailed in a death certificate obtained by The California Post.

The document identifies urinary tract infections, prostate cancer, and end-stage renal disease as contributing factors to Fitzgerald Sr.’s passing.

The death was officially classified as natural by authorities.

Fitzgerald Sr., a respected journalist who documented his son’s Super Bowl XLIII appearance in Tampa, died on June 1 at an Edina hospital in Minnesota, just nine days before his 72nd birthday.

His son, Marcus, noted in a statement that Fitzgerald Sr. “left us peacefully” while “surrounded by his family and those who cherished him.”

In the social media post, Fitzgerald also announced plans to create a scholarship fund in his father’s name to support National Association of Black Journalists students pursuing journalism careers.

“My deepest gratitude to everyone honoring his memory,” Fitzgerald wrote.
