WWEFormer WWE Women’s Champion Layla believes she may only secure a Hall of Fame induction by joining the legendary tag team LayCool.
Layla concluded her WWE career in 2015, retiring after serving as both Divas Champion and Women’s Champion.
Having won the WWE Diva Search in 2006, Layla recently praised emerging talent on the current women’s roster, highlighting Chelsea Green as a performer who embodies the spirit of the era she competed in.
During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Layla was asked about receiving Hall of Fame recognition for her career. She responded candidly, “I don’t think so.”
With former rival Michelle McCool already elected to the Class of 2025, Van Vliet suggested a joint induction of LayCool. Layla replied, “That would probably be the only way.”
Both members of LayCool have retired from in‑ring competition, though Layla has expressed interest in one final match against McCool.
The Final WWE Women’s Champion
The WWE Women’s Championship traces its lineage back to 1956 and the NWA reign of The Fabulous Moolah, and was formally introduced into the WWF in 1984. The title was defended until its retirement in 2010, approximately two years after the Divas Championship debuted on SmackDown.
The Women’s Championship, contested primarily on WWE Raw, was unified with the Divas Championship at Night of Champions in 2010. Layla became the last holder of the classic Women’s belt. Michelle McCool, as the unofficial co‑champion, proceeded as Divas Champion after defeating then‑titleholder Melina in September of that year.
A new WWE Women’s Championship without the historical lineage was launched in 2016, with Charlotte becoming its inaugural holder. This fresh title—later re‑adopted by Charlotte under her surname—has forged its own prestige over the past decade, redefining women’s wrestling in a more respectful format compared with the Divas era.
