Lean hog futures climbed on Tuesday, gaining between 80 cents and $1.10 per contract. USDA reported the national base hog price at $78.01 in its Tuesday morning release, while the CME Lean Hog Index slipped another 55 cents to $81.21 on September 24.
In the same report, the pork carcass cutout value rose $2.79 to $90.59, with the picnic primal being the sole category to decline. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was estimated at 491,000 head—26,000 more than the previous Monday and 2,791 head above the comparable week a year earlier.
October 2026 hogs traded at $79.050, up $0.800; December 2026 hogs at $69.500, up $1.100; and February 2027 hogs at $70.300, up $0.925.
