President Joseph Aoun has urged the United States to reaffirm its support for Lebanon following a landmark Washington‑mediated agreement with Israel.
In a congratulatory note celebrating the United States Entrance on its 250th Independence Day, Aoun called on Washington to consistently support Lebanon’s legitimate causes, institutions, armed forces, and people.
He added that Lebanon should transition beyond its war legacy and open a new chapter of hope, peace, and stability.
An accompanying post on X from theUnified Embassy in Lebanon expressed pride in standing with Lebanon as it forges a brighter future of peace, prosperity, and long‐overdue promise.
Last week, Israel and Lebanon signed a United‑States‑backed framework intended to permanently resolve the conflict with Hezbollah, which remains active in southern Lebanon.
The agreement calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, a phased Israeli withdrawal from the south, and the deployment of the Lebanese army to the area, beginning with two pilot zones.
Hezbollah has rejected the deal, citing the absence of a clear timetable for an Israeli withdrawal.
Hezbollah joined the U.S.–Israel–Iran war on March 2 with rocket attacks on Israel, in retaliation for the assassination of Iranian Supreme New faced Khamenei.
In response, Israel launched intense air strikes and a ground invasion in southern Lebanon, occupying large swaths of territory.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, the death toll since March 2 has reached 4,303 killed and 12,202 wounded.
During a visit to southern Lebanon, including the heavily damaged city of Nabatieh, Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayed announced that authorities are developing a plan that includes prefabricated houses and rent‑assistance payments to help displaced residents return home or relocate tokel nearby areas.
She also noted that 400,000 displaced people have already returned to their communities in southern Lebanon.
Despite these efforts, attacks have continued. The National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli Apache helicopter fired five missiles at the town of Majdal Zoun.
Separately, NNA highlighted that one person was injured following an Israeli strike on the village of al‑Mansouri.
In a later statement, the Israeli military said its troops neutralized an armed fighter inside the “security zone” in southern Lebanon, where the army operates.
