NBA superstar LeBron James is exploring opportunities in the prediction market sector.
The athlete announced a partnership with Polymarket through a brief social media clip shared on Tuesday, marking his entry into this emerging digital financial space.
The advertisement features James interacting with the word “sports” in an elevator at Polymarket’s fictional headquarters, with other potential markets like politics and crypto displayed on surrounding floors.
The accompanying caption read: “Welcome to Polymarket HQ,” with James adding his endorsement beside the company’s X account.
Polymarket responded playfully on X, thanking James for his visit and adding a goat emoji.
According to reports from CNBC and The Athletic, the collaboration will initially focus on football-related markets, with further partnership details expected next week.
“With football season approaching, we’re excited to leverage James’ passion for the sport and expand Polymarket’s reach,” a company representative stated.
James becomes the first active NBA player to partner with Polymarket, according to Awful Announcing.
The move follows similar partnerships by other athletes, including Giannis Antetokounmpo with Kalshi and figures like Bryson DeChambeau and Kyle Kuzma with the same platform.
Sports organizations are increasingly endorsing prediction markets as a growing business trend. In October, the NHL partnered with both Polymarket and Kalshi as its official prediction market providers. Multiple MLB franchises have similarly engaged with Kalshi, such as the Boston Red Sox, which secured a multiyear agreement in August featuring in-stadium signage and digital activations.
In parallel, MLB announced Polymarket as its “Official Prediction Market Exchange” earlier this year, signaling broader industry adoption of these platforms.
