Robert Lewandowski cemented his place in UEFA Nations League history on Friday, scoring a hat-trick for Poland in a 6‑0 victory over Romania, becoming the oldest player ever to achieve a treble in the competition.
At 38 years and 42 days old, Lewandowski eclipsed the previous record held by Ronaldo, who had set the mark at 34 years and 120 days during his hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland in the 2019 Nations League semifinal.
He scored in the 24th, 47th and 86th minutes as Poland eased past Romania, raising his international tally to 92 goals and registering his seventh career hat-trick for Poland. The feat placed him alone in sixth position on the all‑time list of international goal‑scorers.
The achievement occurred during Lewandowski’s 170th cap for Poland — the nation’s record for most appearances — highlighting his extraordinary longevity as a leading forward even in the latter stages of his career.
Lewandowski’s place among Europe’s greats
Friday’s display not only broke the age record but also advanced Lewandowski on two of international football’s elite all‑time lists. His 92 senior goals place him third among European national‑team scorers, behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s 147 for Portugal and Romelu Lukaku’s 94 for Belgium, the latter having also scored today.
Lewandowski’s seventh career hat-trick for Poland ties him with Hungary’s Sándor Kocsis, leaving only four European players ahead of him: Ronaldo (10 for Portugal), Sweden’s Sven Rydell (9), Germany’s Gerd Müller (8) and Denmark’s Poul Nielsen (8).
At 38, Lewandowski shows no signs of decline, steadily narrowing the gap on some of Europe’s greatest football legends with each international appearance.
