Liam Gallagher expressed his strong distaste for the halftime spectacle during Sunday night’s FIFA World Cup final. The Oasis frontman, who has remained highly active in discussing the tournament, described the eclectic ensemble of performances—featuring Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, Burna Boy, composer Gustavo Dudamel, and the Muppets—as a “bad trip.”

Taking to X, the musician shared his disdain: “This is like a bad trip. It’s a good job I’ve got my spiritual socks on or that halftime entertainment could have tipped me over the edge.”

The production kicked off with Madonna, who entered the New York New Jersey Stadium via underground tunnels in a golf cart chauffeured by football icons Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. She performed a reworked version of her 2000 classic “Music” alongside “Danceteria” from her latest project, Confessions II.

The spectacle continued with a brief appearance by BTS performing “Dynamite,” followed by a comedic interlude where Jason Sudeikis, appearing as Coach Ted Lasso alongside Brendan Hunt’s Coach Beard, delivered a pep talk to Justin Bieber. Bieber then took the stage for a performance of “Everything Hallelujah.”

Additional highlights included a collaboration between Shakira and Burna Boy on “Dai Dai,” as well as a performance by the PS 22 Chorus—a Staten Island elementary school choir—singing the Coldplay-penned track “We Dance” with Chris Martin.

Gallagher’s mood may have been dampened by England’s exit from the tournament on Wednesday, which paved the way for a final between Argentina and Spain. Leading up to the semi-finals, the Oasis hit “Wonderwall” had served as the team’s unofficial anthem, with Gallagher enthusiastically promoting it online.

Meanwhile, Oasis is preparing for the September release of Don’t Look Back in Anger, a documentary detailing the brothers’ surprising reunion. Created by Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the film will debut in IMAX and cinemas before streaming on Hulu and Disney+ later this year.
