Life Biosciences Initiates First-in-Class Cellular Rejuvenation Therapy Trial for Vision Restoration]

Life Biosciences has administered its investigational drug ER-100 to the first patient in a clinical trial aimed at reversing age-related vision loss, marking a milestone in longevity therapeutics.

The company is evaluating ER-100 for safety and efficacy in approximately 18 adults over the course of a year. The treatment targets patients with glaucoma and NAION—two conditions that damage the optic nerve cells responsible for transmitting visual signals to the brain. By rejuvenating these cells, ER-100 seeks to restore functional vision.

This trial represents the first instance of a cellular-rejuvenation therapy based on epigenetic restoration receiving FDA authorization for human testing. Life Biosciences, founded by Harvard Medical School genetics professor David Sinclair, views this as an opportunity to assess whether reversing epigenetic aging can address human disease.

The company is advancing applications of its technology across multiple age-related conditions, including fatty liver disease. “Aging appears to be driven primarily by the loss of epigenetic information rather than irreversible damage,” said Sinclair. “This trial offers the first chance to determine if restoring that information can genuinely treat disease.”
