Likud Legal Advisor Avi Halevy Tenders Immediate Resignation to Netanyahu

Attorney Avi Halevy, serving as the Likud party’s legal counsel, has submitted his resignation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a letter dated Thursday night. His departure will take effect immediately, with Halevy formally stepping down as Legal Council of the Likud Party on June 19, 2026.

In his letter, Halevy expressed gratitude to Netanyahu for the trust and leadership extended to him during his tenure, describing the opportunity to serve the party under the Prime Minister’s guidance as both an honor and a privilege. “Contributing to the party’s growth over the years has been a defining privilege,” he wrote.

The resignation follows growing momentum in recent months as several MKs and government-affiliated officials resign from their roles. Halevy’s departure coincides with ongoing efforts tied to Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi’s contentious media reform bill. During a recent session of the Communications Committee, Halevy publicly commended Karhi, stating, “I say this candidly, from my unique position as someone leaving politics: This man deserves a top-five leadership position—a sentiment I offer on behalf of Likud members.”

This development underscores shifting dynamics within Likud’s leadership structure, drawing attention to the broader political realignments unfolding across all party representation in government.
