Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, has been found not guilty on all charges related to a murder-for-hire plot targeting rival artist Quando Rondo. The verdict, delivered on Friday, September 11, concludes a high-profile case that stemmed from events in 2022.
The prosecution alleged that Durk orchestrated the plot following the 2020 fatal shooting of rapper King Von by an associate of Rondo. In 2022, a shooting near the Beverly Center intended for Rondo instead killed his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson. Co-defendants Deandre “OTF Dede” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey were convicted of stalking and conspiracy but acquitted of murder for hire.
Durk’s defense maintained his innocence, arguing that the plot was planned by his former personal assistant, Kavon “OTF Vonnie” Grant, without the rapper’s knowledge. Attorneys emphasized that Grant acted independently to gain favor.
Despite the acquittal, Lil Durk will remain in custody for a second trial on racketeering charges, scheduled for October 5. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli stated, “While we are disappointed with the jury’s decision regarding Durk Banks, AKA Lil Durk, we look forward to presenting our evidence at his second trial, when he will face racketeering murder and firearms charges.”
