Manchester United have fined Lisandro Martinez following his emotional outburst after the Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid earlier this week.
The Argentina international has since issued a public apology for his post-match remarks directed at sporting director Jason Wilcox, while Michael Carrick is scheduled to speak with the media later today regarding the incident.
According to BBC Sport, Martinez’s disciplinary sanction consists of a monetary fine. The 28-year-old defender acknowledged that he mishandled his frustration and accepted responsibility for his actions.
Lisandro Martinez’s apology on social media
Taking to social media, Martinez shared an update with supporters, stating: “Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager.”
“It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after Tuesday’s game.”

“Everyone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity.”
“The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologize.”
Martinez’s criticism supported by some United teammates
As previously reported, Martinez’s pointed comments reflect sentiments shared by several members of the United squad, and this frustration has been building over time.
The atmosphere around Old Trafford has been tense for some time, and many supporters would likely agree that Martinez was simply voicing concerns widely felt throughout the fanbase.
While airing grievances publicly may not have been ideal, it has further intensified scrutiny and media attention surrounding the club. Moving forward, Martinez will aim to channel his energy into improved performances on the pitch, especially considering some of his recent displays have fallen below expectations.
