STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Swedish Academy will award the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday in Stockholm.
Last year, Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai received the honor for works the judges praised for combining a bleak worldview with mordant humor and upholding art’s power amid “apocalyptic terror.”
Earlier in the week, three science prizes were announced: the medicine award went to researchers whose work yielded a tool using light to illuminate brain function; the physics prize recognized a scientist’s efforts to clarify rare neutrinos; and the chemistry prize honored two scientists for deciphering molecular mirror images, a breakthrough that underpins countless drug developments.
The week concludes Friday with the peace prize, while the Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced Monday.
This year’s prize amount is 12 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately $1.2 million, whether awarded to an individual, a small group, or an organization.
