Live cattle futures are trading 45 to 95 cents higher on Monday. Cash trade remained light last week, with sales edging up to $258‑260 across the country. Feeder cattle futures gained $2.75 to $3.75 on Monday, though they have retreated from early‑session peaks. The CME Feeder Cattle Index rose $1.62 on June 18 to settle at $368.68.

Over the weekend, two additional cases of New World screwworm were confirmed in Texas cattle in Edwards County, and one case was identified in a sheep in Crockett County. The outbreak now totals 15 cases, with 12 still active.

Thursday’s USDA Cattle on Feed report showed May placements down 9.7 % year‑over‑year, below the forecasted 5.5 % decline. Marketings slipped 11.77 % versus 2025 to 1.551 million head. June 1 on‑feed inventory was 2.09 % larger than a year ago at 11.682 million head.

Monday’s wholesale boxed beef report showed Choice boxes up $1.24 to $395.61 and Select boxes up $1.86 to $373.94, widening the Choice‑Select spread to $21.67. Federally inspected cattle slaughter for the prior week was estimated at 526,000 head—up 2,000 from the previous week but down 32,476 from the same week a year ago.
