Virgil van Dijk will remain at Anfield for the 2026-27 campaign despite speculation about a summer departure.
Liverpool are focused on strengthening their defensive options for the upcoming season, having already secured Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. Contrary to recent reports from Teamtalk suggesting Van Dijk might move on, the club has categorically ruled out any plans to consider the Dutch centre-back’s exit during the transfer window.
While Van Dijk agreed to a long-term contract extension last summer, some reports claimed certain club officials had expressed regret over the decision. However, veteran journalist James Pearce has debunked these claims, confirming that Liverpool view Van Dijk as central to their plans and have appointed him as captain for the forthcoming campaign.
At 34 years old, Van Dijk continues to enjoy full support from his teammates in the dressing room. Despite Liverpool’s disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season, the veteran defender is guaranteed to lead the line at the heart of the backline.
Newly appointed head coach Andoni Iraola is expected to receive substantial investment for transfer activity this summer, with multiple signings planned to build on their second-half revival under theincoming manager.
