Liverpool are pushing to extend attacking prodigy Rio Ngumoha’s contract amid interest from Bayern Munich.
Following a remarkable rise, Ngumoha has attracted significant European interest. While his current deal runs until 2028, his future has become a major talking point amid Bayern’s pursuit.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Liverpool are concerned about losing him and will look to secure a new deal once he turns 18, as reports suggest Bayern have agreed personal terms.
While speaking about the English youth internationals’ future, O’Rourke said, “Obviously Liverpool are not planning to lose Rio Ngumoha any time soon. He’s seen as a huge star for the future for the Anfield club.
“He’s under contract until 2028, but I think Liverpool’s officials will be very keen to sit down with Ngumoha’s representatives and try and thrash out a new deal when he turns 18 in a few months.
“Liverpool are obviously unhappy with this suggestion that Bayern Munich have agreed personal terms with the player to try and get a deal done.”
Ngumoha was officially promoted to the Reds’ first team last summer, though he had already been featuring regularly. Widely regarded as one of England’s brightest prospects, Liverpool view him as integral to their long-term plans, despite limited usage under Arne Slot.
Bayern see Ngumoha as an ideal addition, needing more quality on the flanks to compete with and support Luis Diaz. The German club reportedly have already agreed terms with the 17-year-old, prompting Liverpool to act quickly on a new contract.
Having signed his first professional deal last September at 17, Ngumoha’s current contract expires in 2028. Liverpool are now aggressively pursuing an extension, hoping to offer fresh terms upon his 18th birthday later this year to fend off Bayern and other interested parties.
The Merseyside club believe Ngumoha will play a crucial role under new manager Andoni Iraola next season.
