Liverpool are prepared to intensify their pursuit of Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
The Catalan giants signed Ronald Araujo on loan from the Blaugrana over the summer, with an option to buy set at approximately £55m.
The move raised plenty of eyebrows, considering Araujo struggled for minutes during the latter stages of last season at Barcelona.
Although Araujo is primarily a centre-back by trade, he has caught the eye with impressive performances from right-back for the Anfield giants.
If he continues to perform at the same level, Liverpool will undoubtedly trigger the option to purchase him at the end of the season.
It is now claimed that Liverpool could do business with Barcelona again in January, setting their sights on securing Balde’s services.
Balde has fallen completely out of favour at the Spanish champions, but he could find a new lease of life with the Merseyside club.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is not entirely convinced by Milos Kerkez as the first-choice left-back and is seeking an upgrade.
Balde would be a solid addition to the squad, given his strong distribution skills and solid defensive attributes.
He was reluctant to leave Barcelona over the summer, but may decide to move on now that Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo are ahead of him in the pecking order under manager Hansi Flick.
