Al-Marimi has remained in U.S. custody since 2022 and was initially slated to face trial in May 2025.
That trial date was established after a joint request from the prosecution and defence, who pointed to the case’s complexity and Al-Marimi’s health issues.
Originally pencilled for April this year, the trial was postponed again after the defence sought additional preparation time.
The Lockerbie bombing has been investigated jointly by Scottish and U.S. authorities since December 1988.
Crown Office prosecutors and Police Scotland detectives had planned to travel to Washington to observe the proceedings, with Scottish witnesses expected to be among the first to testify.
Laura Buchan, head of the Lockerbie investigation team at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: “I recognise that this adjournment will be disappointing for the families and for everyone who has followed this case for many years.”
“As the matter is still before the court, it would not be appropriate to comment on the reasons for the delay. Although the proceedings are being led by U.S. authorities, Scottish prosecutors and police remain fully committed to supporting the pursuit of justice.”
