Kamurasi, a London amateur goalkeeper, plays for SE Dons, a club striving to rise through the football pyramid, a world away from his southeast London roots.
The club has drawn attention after advancing to the FA Cup’s second qualifying round, where it will face Chichester City on Saturday, 19 September.
While Kamurasi has not yet spoken publicly, he posted on social media asking for patience and space as the situation develops.
On X, he posted: “I appeal to all Ugandans to remain patient and allow the Omusuuga and the committee to perform their duties in accordance with our cultural traditions for enthroning a new Omukama. Let us focus entirely on mourning my cousin, His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.”
King Oyo, who became the world’s youngest reigning monarch at age three, ascended the throne in 1995.
The vacant throne of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom has sparked considerable intrigue and speculation.
The Royal Select Committee, responsible for confirming a new king, must first produce a shortlist that considers both bloodline descent and kinship to the late monarch.
Uganda operates a modern government with an elected president and parliament, yet retains several traditional kingdoms that hold cultural sway without political authority.
The Tooro Kingdom, located in western Uganda, was ruled by King Oyo from 1995 until his death in 2026.
Following tradition, his casket will be escorted to the royal burial grounds together with his successor and a few close relatives.
During the ceremony, the new king will cast nine coffee beans into the ground where King Oyo lies.
Before proceeding to the palace, where he will receive a specially prepared meal, the future king is expected to engage in a ceremonial contest for the throne.
Historically, all Tooro rulers have been native to the region, and no one in the kingdom’s history has ever declined the crown.
Should a successor decline, the Royal Select Committee would reconvene to select another suitable candidate until one accepts.
