Formed in 1860, Cray Wanderers rank among the world’s oldest football clubs and remain the oldest in London.

For 166 years the club had never qualified for the FA Cup first round.

Their breakthrough came in the fourth qualifying round when they edged past Bedford Town in a dramatic encounter that concluded a 77‑attempt streak.

After a 0‑0 draw on 17 October at Bedford, a replay took place three days later at Flamingo Park.

The regulation 90 minutes ended 1‑1, and the match proceeded into extra time.

Bedford led 1‑0 in the 101st minute, but Cray striker Ade Yusuff equalised to make it 2‑2, sending the tie to a penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper JJ Briggs, on loan from Cambridge United, saved two penalties, paving the way for historic progression in Chislehurst.

Teenager Jakob Lowe scored from the spot at 12 yards, securing a 4‑3 penalty victory, a moment that resonated with club captain Frankie Raymond.
