M.I.A. has revealed that she was abruptly removed from Kid Cudi’s ‘Rebel Ragers’ Tour without any explanation or direct conversation from the rapper. The incident has sparked public controversy, with M.I.A. emphasizing her frustration over the lack of communication regarding the decision.
Cudi, whose real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, stated earlier this year that fan feedback influenced his choice to drop her from the tour. He cited complaints about remarks she made during performances, which he claimed were perceived as offensive by audiences. However, M.I.A. has publicly disputed this account, insisting she was never informed of specific issues or given an opportunity to address concerns.
In an interview with The New York Times’ Popcast, M.I.A. shared that she attempted to reach out to Cudi after being cut from the tour but was met with silence. She described her son discovering the news through Cudi’s public statement online, which prompted her to learn of the decision indirectly.
“He didn’t even speak to me about it,” she said. “He didn’t call my management, he didn’t call me, he didn’t talk to the crew. I even made an effort to go and talk to him, and he didn’t see me. Yeah, it was kind of crazy. My son is like, ‘Hey, I heard you’re not on the tour,’” she continued, adding that her son then sent her a screenshot from Cudi’s announcement.
M.I.A. also criticized media narratives that framed her removal as a backlash for perceived political leanings. She argued that claims she supported figures like Donald Trump or aligned with Trump’s ideology were exaggerated or misinterpreted. “That is what the media wrote as what’s going on. That was the perception that was generated and fanned and algorithmized to cement a narrative,” she stated. “The narrative is that is a Brown woman who is an immigrant and no matter what Americans think about that, they could never remove that.”
Social media platforms later amplified the tension, with M.I.A. responding to the situation by joking about her lack of voting history due to logistical issues—though she later clarified she is “not really” opposed to vaccines. Her 2024 campaign endorsements have further fueled discussions about her political views.
M.I.A. has also been active in her own projects, including releasing the album M.I.7 earlier this year and launching a new clothing line designed to block 10G frequencies through her Ohmni brand. Amidst the ongoing debates, she remains a polarizing but influential figure in contemporary music and cultural discourse.
