Madonna and Charli XCX have joined forces on “Danceteria Afterhours,” marking their first collaborative effort and serving as the latest addition to a series of reworks from the pop icon’s Confessions II era. This revised version of the album’s original “Danceteria” was co-produced by Andrew Watt, Cirkut, Stuart Price, and Madonna herself.
Set to release just days before Madonna’s anticipated return to the VMAs, “Danceteria Afterhours” represents the second collaboration between the artists in recent months, following August’s “Love Sensation (Afterhours Mix)” featuring Kylie Minogue. This partnership came about despite a perceived slight from Madonna toward Charli in May, when she posted on social media, “If your Dance floor feels dead, maybe you’re playing the wrong music.” Ironically, this sentiment echoes Charli’s own lyrics on the Music, Fashion, Film single “Rock Music,” where she sings the widely quoted line, “I think the dancefloor is dead/So now we’re making rock music.”
