Malaysia is becoming an attractive middle ground for investors from Hong Kong and mainland China who want to purchase property in a country that offers the stability associated with Singapore while delivering price points comparable to those in Thailand, according to industry analysts.
Data from Juwai IQI, a property portal featuring 7 million listings across 111 countries, reveals that Malaysia ranked fourth in Chinese buyer inquiries during the first half of 2026. This marks an improvement from its seventh‑place position in 2024 and sixth‑place ranking in 2025.
“Malaysia is a very popular destination for Hong Kong and mainland Chinese buyers, especially as a lifestyle, education, retirement or residency‑linked investment,” said Kashif Ansari, co‑founder and group CEO at Juwai IQI.
The surge in interest is driven by a combination of lifestyle preferences and broader improvements in Malaysia’s economy, noted Kingston Lai, founder and CEO of Hong Kong‑based Asia Bankers Club, a direct investor sales firm.
