Malen Delighted with Roma Move, Targets Silverware After Seamless Transition

Donyell Malen has expressed his satisfaction with life in the Italian capital following his January switch to Roma, insisting the move has exceeded his expectations both on and off the pitch.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Dutch forward revealed that a guaranteed central striking role and discussions with the coaching staff were pivotal in his decision to leave the Premier League for Serie A midway through the season.

“One of the reasons that convinced me to leave the Premier League to move to Italy in January was the guarantee that I would play through the middle,” Malen explained. “My conversation with the coach influenced my decision significantly. For me, it was a very important factor.”

The attacker believes he made the correct choice, highlighting the warm reception he has received since arriving at the club.

“I’m more than convinced I made the right choice. So far, everything is wonderful: the welcome, the integration, the relationships with the people. Rome is a fantastic place to be. We’re all very happy because I’ve settled into reality quickly.”

Malen arrived with high motivation and credits the collective environment for his smooth adaptation, dismissing the notion that his individual effort alone drove the successful transition.

“I arrived full of enthusiasm and motivation. Luckily, everything went well. But it was the club’s merit, not mine. If we hadn’t all pulled together, we wouldn’t have achieved our objective.”

Reflecting on his scoring form, which has seen him rediscover the prolific touch of his PSV Eindhoven days, Malen remains focused on collective ambition rather than personal statistics.

“I always try to give my best. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes less so. The future? We want to win something. That’s our goal.”
