Manchester City’s transfer strategy has evolved dramatically following Wednesday’s acquisition of Ayyoub Bouaddi. The club has successfully generated €278.5 million from player departures so far this window, with notable exits including Savio, Tijjani Reijnders, Rodri, James Trafford, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake.
Bouaddi’s arrival brings City’s total spending to €273.7 million, resulting in a positive transfer balance of €4.8 million for the current window.
However, the landscape could shift significantly with additional departures on the horizon. Tottenham has finalized a loan agreement for Omar Marmoush, with an obligation to secure his permanent signature for £60 million (€58 million) next summer. This fee will be recorded against City’s 2027-28 financial figures rather than the current season’s accounts.
Nico Gonzalez is anticipated to depart the club, while Jack Grealish remains a potential exit before the transfer deadline. The winger, who spent last season on loan at Everton, may reconsider his future given the departure of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Enzo Maresca as manager. Grealish’s contract extends until June 2027.
A permanent transfer for Gonzalez, and potentially Grealish, could substantially boost City’s 2026-27 revenue streams.
The club’s exceptional ability to generate funds through player sales becomes even more remarkable considering their ongoing midfield reconstruction. City has already invested €135 million in acquiring Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, while maintaining interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
