Manchester United’s midfield overhaul remains active despite significant investments this summer. While improved technical quality and depth have been added, the club is evaluating whether to secure an elite ball-carrying midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Eduardo Camavinga has emerged as a potential target, offering Champions League experience, athleticism, and versatility to operate in both defensive and central midfield roles. However, the 21-year-old’s commitment to Real Madrid presents a key challenge, as he reportedly wishes to remain at the Bernabéu and contest for a regular role.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United have internally discussed approaching Camavinga, though his current stance complicates negotiations. The Guardian notes that United have already spent £82m on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans but are weighing further additions. Other options, including Roma’s Manu Koné and Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, are also under consideration, though £60m-£80m valuations could limit major signings.
Camavinga’s strengths in regaining possession, escaping pressure, and driving forward could enhance United’s midfield control in high-stakes matches. However, Real Madrid’s strong negotiating position—bolstered by Camavinga’s contract extending to 2029—makes a deal unlikely unless his stance shifts. United’s strategy suggests prioritizing committed targets over prolonged pursuits of uncommitted players.
