Manchester United Left-Back Luke Shaw Faces Free Transfer After Contract Stalemate

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is reportedly not close to agreeing a new contract at Old Trafford.

There is currently no indication that Shaw will remain with the club after the summer when his current deal expires.

A report in the Daily Mail suggests the 31‑year‑old may finally end his long United career and leave on a free transfer in 2027.

Shaw joined United from Southampton in 2014 and has had a mixed spell over more than a dozen years.

Luke Shaw’s Manchester United legacy

Shaw arrived at United as a promising youngster after impressing at Southampton, but he has never fully lived up to the high expectations placed on him.

However, many of his difficulties have been injury‑related, and when fully fit he has shown he can perform at a high level.

Consistency has remained an issue, yet Shaw boasts over 300 appearances for United and winner’s medals in the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.

Internationally, Shaw has earned 34 caps for England, scoring three goals, including a decisive strike in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

What next for Luke Shaw?

The contract saga appears unlikely to culminate in a new agreement, leaving Shaw’s future at Old Trafford uncertain.

United are already evaluating options at left‑back; Patrick Dorgu is seen as a potential successor, and the club continues to monitor players such as Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde, according to Fabrizio Romano.
