The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced their next head coach, and it is not former Wisconsin standout Joe Pavelski.

Although Pavelski’s name surfaced as a wildcard candidate during the search, the Leafs ultimately selected Jim Heller.

Heller, who previously served as an assistant under Mike Babcock, proved to be a far more suitable choice than Pavelski.

Nevertheless, the Badgers legend may still pursue a coaching role, potentially outside the NHL.

Todd Milewski of the Badgers noted that Mike Hastings has “had conversations with Joe Pavelski about maintaining his involvement with the program and possibly expanding it.” It remains too early to determine how those discussions will unfold.

Following a recent National Championship appearance, the Badgers program could benefit significantly from additional support by a figure like Pavelski.
