Marc Marquez topped the first MotoGP practice session at Mobility Resort Motegi on Friday morning, setting a lap of 1:44.073 on his Lenovo Team Ducati Desmosedici GP26.
Jorge Martin followed closely in second with a 1:44.172 on his Aprilia Racing RS-GP26, while teammate Marco Bezzecchi finished third with a 1:44.206. Alex Marquez secured fourth place for BK8 Gresini Racing with a lap of 1:44.334.
Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo led the Honda and Yamaha charges in fifth and sixth, respectively, as the track dried from a damp start to sunny conditions later in the session.
Home wildcard Takaaki Nakagami sustained a fractured left collarbone after crashing his Honda less than five minutes into FP1, ruling him out for the remainder of the weekend. Pedro Acosta concluded the session in tenth.
