eel- former tennis star Mardy Fish has shown that his athletic prowess extends well beyond the court, hinting at a promising new chapter in golf.
The 44‑year‑old secured his third title at the American Century Championship, concluding Sunday’s final round at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada, with 72 points.
Having once ranked No. 7 globally, Fish captured six singles and eight doubles titles during a 15‑year tennis tenure; now he extends his collection by finishing six points ahead of nearest rival Joe Pavelski in the tournament’s modified Stableford format.
“I’m excited to be playing a sport that suits me,” Fish told NBC after the event. “I genuinely enjoy it; this is the best week of the year, the best invitation ever received.”
Joe Pavelski, a former NHL forward chasing a consecutive title at a flagship celebrity golf contest, recorded a bogey on the 17th hole, forcing him to aim for an eagle to close the gap. In that attempt, his ball entered the water hazard.
Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Steph Curry placed third with 59 points, followed by LPGA star Annika Sorenstam at 58 and former MLB pitcher John Smoltz with 55.
