Marina Mabrey etched her name alongside WNBA legends A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage, matching the league’s single-game scoring record with 53 points in Toronto Tempo’s dominant 125-97 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Sparks.

Behind a stellar 9-of-18 performance from beyond the arc, Mabrey became the latest player to reach the prestigious 53-point plateau. Her previous career-high of 37 points had stood after hitting nine 3-pointers in a June 19 clash against Connecticut, but she surpassed that mark decisively with 39 points into the second half before adding 14 more.

The Tempo (9-9) set the tone early with a 19-6 opening run less than four minutes in, punctuated by triples from Mabrey, Maria Conde, and Julie Allemand. Toronto’s offense was unstoppable, shooting 20-of-42 from three-point range as a team while building an imposing 35-point lead at one stage.

Conde nailed 3-of-5 three-pointers en route to 13 points and seven rebounds, while Allemand connected on all three of her trifecta attempts, scored 13 points, and handed out a career-high 14 assists. Off the bench, Laura Juskaite chipped in with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

For the Sparks (8-9), Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby each dropped 21 points, with Rae Burrell adding 17. However, Los Angeles’ offensive struggles were compounded by poor shooting—11-of-38 from three-point range—as the team managed fewer made threes than Mabrey accumulated in a single game.

Erica Wheeler and Ariel Atkins both battled foul trouble in the backcourt, while the Sparks were without rotational forward Cameron Brink due to an ankle injury. The team’s challenges were magnified by the absence of leading scorer Kelsey Plum, sidelined with a leg injury sustained in Sunday’s win over New York, leaving Los Angeles unable to sustain offensive rhythm throughout the contest.
