PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Brandon Marsh, Alec Bohm and Kyle Schwarber each hit a home run, and Jesús Luzardo pitched seven strong innings as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 8‑2 on Tuesday night.
Luzardo (6‑4) was dominant, not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. He yielded only two runs and five hits while striking out nine and kept the Marlins off the board with a solid performance.
In contrast, Miami starter Tyler Phillips (1‑2) surrendered all three homers to his former teammates, plus a two‑run triple to Bryson Stott. He yielded eight runs on six hits and three walks across four innings.
Marsh’s ninth homer of the season, a two‑run shot, pushed the Phillies’ lead to 5‑0 in the second inning. It was his fourth consecutive game at Citizens Bank Park with a home run.
Bohm, who had an RBI single in the same game, also hit his ninth homer of the season. He drove a 447‑foot drive off a 2‑0 sinker from Phillips into the left‑center seats.
Phillips’ last appearance against the Phillies was last September, when he caught a line drive by Bohm. He later apologized for firing the ball toward Bohm after the play.
Schwarber reclaimed the major‑league home‑run lead with his 25th of the season in the fourth inning. This marks the ninth time in his career that he has reached 25 homers in a season, and the first time in all five seasons with the Phillies.
Esteury Ruiz provided the only offense for the Marlins, hitting a two‑run homer off Luzardo in the seventh inning.
The loss marked the first time the Marlins have fallen in consecutive games during June.
