Martha Reeves seeks to clarify her recent, poorly received rendition of the national anthem at the inaugural Women’s Professional Baseball League, attributing the shortcomings to the backup singers during a Fox 2 Detroit interview.
During an interview with Charlie Langton, the Motown icon declined a redo, asserting that the backup singers were responsible and had been attempting to earn income, while noting she lacked rehearsal time with them. Following the performance, TMZ released rehearsal footage.
‘I am proud of my performance and happy about it,’ she said, emphasizing that she did not strike anyone with the microphone. She subsequently performed a second version, which is largely similar to the first. Below is the video.
