After debuting at a Belgium EDM festival, the collaborative single from DJ Martin Garrix and Irish rock band U2 is expected to drop soon.
Martin Garrix premiered the new U2 collaboration “Fireflies,” featuring guitar work from The Edge, during his Tomorrowland set on Friday in Antwerp, Belgium.
The Edge layered his signature guitar tones over a prerecorded Bono vocal for the “Fireflies” debut. Garrix announced on social media that the track is “out soon” and posted a pre‑save link for the upcoming release.
Garrix and U2 have a history of collaboration over the past decade, including the UEFA 2020 anthem “We Are the People,” a production credit on the U2 song “Your Song Saved My Life” for the Sing 2 soundtrack, and co‑writing credits on tracks such as “Angels for Each Other,” “Catherina,” and “Weightless.”
It is not yet clear whether “Fireflies” will be a standalone single, a preview from Garrix’s upcoming album, or part of U2’s forthcoming record; however, the band recently released “Street of Dreams,” the first single from a new album slated for later this year.
U2’s next album, timed to the band’s 50th anniversary, will be their first studio release since 2023’s Songs of Surrender and their first collection of new material since 2017’s Songs of Experience.
Earlier this year, they released two six‑song EPs, Days of Ash and Easter Lily, which explore themes of politics and spiritual renewal.
After releasing Easter Lily in April, Bono explained that the forthcoming album would take a different tone, describing it as “noisy, messy, ‘unreasonably colorful’” music intended for live performance. He added that vivid rock ’n’ roll remains an act of resistance against the negativity seen on screens.
