Image via ShutterstockFresh off the record-breaking success of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which surpassed $1.7 billion globally this summer, Matt Damon continues a career trajectory that spans four decades. From his breakthrough in Good Will Hunting through the Jason Bourne franchise and The Martian, Damon has consistently elevated his craft. His recent collaboration with Nolan on Oppenheimer earned him a second Best Picture victory. Now, however, one of his most celebrated films is preparing to exit its streaming home.
The 2006 crime thriller The Departed arrived just a year before The Bourne Ultimatum concluded Damon’s action trilogy. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film assembled a formidable ensemble including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga, Ray Winstone, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, and Martin Sheen. The picture finally secured Scorsese his long-overdue Best Director Oscar while also claiming Best Picture, alongside nearly $300 million in worldwide box office receipts against a $90 million budget.
Limited Window to Stream the Crime Epic on HBO Max
An English-language remake of the Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs, The Departed holds a “Certified Fresh” 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus praises its “outstanding work from an excellent cast” and describes it as “a thoroughly engrossing gangster drama with the gritty authenticity and soupy morality we come to expect from Martin Scorsese.” The film remains available on HBO Max in the United States only until November 1.
