Former Blackburn Rovers forward Chris Sutton suggests that Martin’s reputation for favoring possession‑heavy play could jeopardize his tenure if the team fails to deliver results.
“There’s a growing perception that his sides are overly focused on keeping the ball, lacking the cutting edge and forward thrust needed to break down defenses,” Sutton said.
“Given Leicester’s ambitions this season, the expectation is clear: an immediate return to the higher tier.”
Smith noted that this perception might make fans less patient, even though Martin previously led Southampton to Championship promotion.
Sutton acknowledged that some of the criticism aimed at Martin after his brief stint at Rangers was unfair, but emphasized that Leicester’s high expectations leave little margin for a slow start.
“He needs a couple of quick results to shift the momentum,” Sutton added.
“Leicester supporters anticipate promotion, and that pressure represents his greatest challenge.”
