Massive Casualties Reported as Rebel and Jihadist Forces Attack Malian Troops
Local and military sources informed AFP on Sunday that at least 50 Malian soldiers were killed in an ambush involving Tuareg separatists and jihadist militants. The attack occurred as troops were departing from the strategic northern town of Anefis.
“The preliminary death toll is catastrophic. More than 50 soldiers have been killed, and at least 24 are being held prisoner,” stated a local official aligned with the ruling junta. This incident marks one of the deadliest strikes against the Malian military in recent years.
