Mastodon have announced their first album in five years, titled ‘Marrow Deep’, and unveiled the new single ‘Snakes For Dinner’, which features Josh Homme.
The highly anticipated record will be released on August 28 through Loma Vista Recordings. Pre‑order and pre‑save options are available. According to a press release, the follow‑up to 2021’s ‘Hushed and Grim’ sees founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders, and Bill Kelliher move past recent personal challenges with renewed purpose and energy.
Drawing on the Greek myth of the Three Fates, the album reflects the band’s intense personal experiences over recent years and features a lineup of unnamed special guests.
This release marks the band’s first full‑length album to include guitarist Nick Johnston and significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira.
The announcement is accompanied by the new single ‘Snakes For Dinner’, which includes guest vocals from Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and a music video that can be viewed below.
‘Snakes For Dinner’ marks Homme’s first appearance on a Mastodon track since his contribution to ‘Colony of Birchmen’ on the 2006 album ‘Blood Mountain’.
The track follows last month’s release ‘Your Ghost Again’, the band’s first song since former guitarist Brent Hinds passed away in a motorcycle accident last August at age 51. It also serves as the first preview of the group’s upcoming, as‑yet‑untitled album.
Sanders added that the band members are excited to continue working together, with other members equally enthusiastic about the upcoming record.
He described the feeling as magical, reminiscent of the band’s early days when everyone was eager and united, and expressed excitement about finally recording the new album.
The ‘Marrow Deep’ tracklist is:
‘Barbarians Blood’
‘Poisonous Weapons’
‘Your Ghost Again’
‘Snakes For Dinner’
‘Out Like a Lamb’
‘In the Ruins’
‘They’re Coming For You’
‘Golden Spires’
‘Moth and Bone’
‘A Vampire’s Demeanor’
‘The Vanishing’
‘The Three Fates’

Earlier this year, NME honored Hinds in an article reflecting on music legends lost in 2025, noting his roots in Alabama, his preference for bluegrass and Zeppelin‑style riffs, and his pivotal role in the band’s evolution until his departure in March. The split was contested, and Hinds’ subsequent death at age 51 in a traffic collision further deepened the tragedy.
Earlier this year, fans noted that the Grammy Awards omitted Brent Hinds from its In Memoriam segment at the 2026 ceremony.
