Matt Cardona Eyes Royal Rumble Comeback Following Triceps Surgery

During a recent appearance on Katie Nolan’s YouTube show, Matt Cardona reflected on the pivotal moments that have shaped his career and personal life alongside Chelsea Green.

Cardona described his 2020 WWE release as a blessing in disguise, calling it the greatest day of his life. Having signed with the company at age 20 and remained until 35, the departure compelled him to discover his identity beyond the Zack Ryder persona fans had known for over a decade.

Rather than simply rebranding and replicating his previous act, Cardona spent five years competing on the independent circuit worldwide, meticulously constructing the Matt Cardona character from the ground up before earning his way back to WWE.

That momentum was recently halted when Cardona suffered a torn triceps during a match, an injury requiring surgery and extensive rehabilitation. Undeterred, he remains remarkably optimistic, stating his intention to return ahead of medical projections and targeting the Royal Rumble in February as his comeback date.

Cardona quipped that the injury occurred because his arm was “too muscular for its own good,” though the timing is unfortunate given the traction he had recently regained.

Meanwhile, Green offered a personal update on her own trajectory. The WWE Women’s World Champion revealed that she and Cardona had been seriously discussing starting a family prior to her latest WWE recall. Since pregnancy would necessitate a full hiatus from in-ring competition, the couple has opted to defer those plans for the time being.

Green is leveraging this phase of her career to cultivate an acting portfolio, aiming to establish a viable post-wrestling pathway. She also expressed gratitude to Cardona for affording her the autonomy to determine her own timeline without pressure.
