Former Australia batter Matthew Hayden will lead the Glasgow Cosmic franchise in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL).
Hayden has committed to coaching Glasgow Cosmic for the league’s inaugural event, scheduled from 26 August to 20 September.
He has divided his time between media work and coaching since retiring from cricket in 2012.
His most recent coaching role was as batting coach for the Gujarat Titans in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Hayden also served in batting and mentoring capacities with Pakistan’s coaching staff from 2021 until after the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The 54-year-old has amassed 15,066 runs across 103 Tests, 161 one-day internationals, and nine T20s for Australia from 1993 to 2009.
His assistant at Glasgow Cosmic will be Queenslander Matthew Mott, who previously coached England’s white-ball team from 2022 to 2024.
Notable players signed for Cosmic include New Zealand opener Finn Allen, South African pacer Lungi Ngidi, and former England all-rounder Liam Livingstone.
The ETPL is a joint initiative involving cricket boards from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, with teams based in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.
Glasgow Cosmic is backed by the Mugafi Group, an Indian entertainment company, while former Australian captain Steve Waugh and Indian legend Rahul Dravid have invested in other ETPL franchises.
The tournament’s first edition will take place in The Hague and Dublin.
